Two Victims Identified in Brown University Attack as Law Enforcement Press On With Search for Perpetrator.

The pair of scholars who lost their lives in the recent mass shooting at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – as a manhunt for their assailant continued following the release by authorities in Rhode Island of the sole person detained in connection in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The student Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was described as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, as stated by the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which paid tribute to her at a service on Sunday.

Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of the campus GOP group, as the club stated. Karoline Leavitt also posted condolences publicly, remarking: “There are no words. Thinking of her loved ones and companions, above all her mom and dad.”

An International Student

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the prestigious university, family members said.

His name was officially acknowledged by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and aiding others,” his sibling Samira said in a online post.

Details of the Attack

Nine other people were wounded in the violent event in the school of engineering of Brown’s university in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Law enforcement reported by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-man taken into custody in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“There is a killer at large,” said the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you have to regroup and go in another, and this is precisely what occurred over the last day or so.”

Public Fear

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, admitted: “It is expected to provoke renewed concern for our public”.

The assailant began shooting inside a classroom in the building on Saturday afternoon, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a 9mm handgun, a law enforcement official reported to the Associated Press.

Officers that searched the hotel seized a pair of pistols and two loaded 30-round magazines when the suspect was detained, according to reports.

The Wounded Victims

Among those wounded, one pupil was released from the hospital, said Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in serious yet stable state, and one remained in critical care, officials reported on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a private academy in North Carolina, said Kendall Turner, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

More Condolences

Cook was remembered at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only during her upbringing... but at the university she was an incredible light in that institution as well.”

Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the organization. “Ella was recognized for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she served her chapter and other students,” he said.

Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by Umurzokov’s death in a tribute. “We extend our sincere condolences to the Umurzokov family, friends, and schoolmates and mourn the loss of his bright future.”
